Paid links still work in my experience as far as boosting rankings…I dont care about the google page rank so much…

Paid back links can easily be detected by googgle from the way in which links were created. It not at wise to go for paid back links.

These directories are not “selling” back links. But, rather, charging fees for expedited review and inclusion. Typically many of these directories, including the Yahoo directory, also has a no pay submission, which can take many years to get submitted. I have purchased these expedited reviews for my site and have seen a definite lift in organic rankings.>

There is no point of buying back links because you can boost your ranking with free methods like social bookmarks, blogs, and forums. Once you have a little reputation natural linking will really start taking place if you have a great website.
