bannerad3 SEO Cold Callers who think outside of the box   its true!

Just had to write this very quick post.

It always makes me giggle when I get SEO cold calls, or spam – from people claiming to have spent some time on my website, funny they didn’t spend long enough on there to realise that I’m an SEO consultant……. Often when I reply with words along the line of “I’m an SEO consultant, which website have you been looking at??” the phone line mysteriously goes quiet – and then “neerrrrrrrrrrrrr” (the sound of a hung up phone).

To be fair I do run some sites that aren’t about SEO – but if they took the time to do a whois they’d know who’s the site was.

I always thought cold callers were robots, especially the SEO / SEM telesales, they mainly have the same pitch – it’s usually the same old patter “I’ve noticed you’re not found on google on the first page (for what keywords????)…” , “We are search engine optimisation specialists (why the heck are you messing about cold calling then!??)…

(By the way -  I’m not having ago at REAL SEO companies who make cold calls – some SEO companies do make cold calls, but the real SEO companies would tend to make targeted calls to clients after doing real research & being sure that they can help – personally I couldn’t be bothered to do this, but it’s not these kinds of SEO cold callers I’m referring to – it’s the “ooh SEO that looks like a market – lets fill a room full of people & make a bomb from selling that SEO thingy, whatever it’s called”….kind of outfits that I’m referring to, which are companies I generally refer to as being outside of the realms of actual SEO, and more akin to business rate reduction companies, and the other outfits that set up to make profit from a telesales operation).

Anyway – today I got a phone call from someone I could tell was in a call centre – but they started the call “I’d like to talk to the person who runs the website, I am trying to use it and I have some problems”  When I replied “you can speak to me” – he went into a sales pitch!

How’s that for thinking outside of the box! Obviously he didn’t get to far with me, although I was very polite – but I’m at least impressed to experience a cold caller / telesales operator going off the beaten track a bit.  icon wink SEO Cold Callers who think outside of the box   its true!

It still amazes me that there are so many companies selling SEO services who still use cold calling – this is evidence that it’s working – which means people in the UK must be signing up on the phone – or surely those companies who’ve been doing this for years, wouldn’t be still in business, or at least wouldn’t still be employing telesales staff it it wasn’t working.

Personally, is someone phones me telling me they’re experts in any marketing method other than telesales, I would ask the question “then why is your company not focusing on their main skill – why are they resorting to cold calling and / or email spamming” but maybe that’s just me!!?

Anyway, just wanted to blurt that out.
